ASUU STRIKE: National Association of Nigerian Students threatens Buhari 2019 presidential bid

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) threatens to vote out President Buhari in 2019 if the federal government fail to meet the Association of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)demands to enable Nigerian students return to the classroom.

NANS on Monday protest peacefully with the title; save education rally, in Abeokuta, Ogun State over the ongoing industrial action of ASUU for non-compliance of the federal government to their demands.

NANS spokesman, Azeez Adeyemi according to Daily Trust speaks with newsmen at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Secretariat in Abeokuta after the protest, calls on the federal government to implement the demands ASUU.

"Mr. President, NANS is giving you this for free that, come 2019, we are going to show you the road, through our votes, to Daura if after today's nationwide protest, you still not respect the voice of over 50 million Nigerians students.

"We hereby call on the federal government to implement the demands of ASUU and COEASU, because, we have resolved not to go back on this struggle," he said.

Also speaking on the strike, NANS Zonal A Coordinator, Umar Faruk Lawal voice out the dissatisfaction of Nigerian students staying at home and called on the federal government look into the education sector.

"We are not happy with the federal government, all our institutions are shut down, we are not happy with the way things are going in the education system. Nigeria students should be called back to classrooms.

"We are not happy that all our institutions are shut down by ASUU, COEASU and NASU. The federal government should look into this sector and do something about it. The students are not happy sitting down at home," he added.

ASUU is currently on strike over unpaid allowances, poor funding for the educational sector and non-implementation of 2009 agreement with the federal government.
