BREAKING NEWS INEC Postpones Saturday 16 election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INCE) on Saturday announces the postponement of the presidential and national assembly election scheduled to hold 16 February.

The chairman of the commission, Mahmood Yakuku makes the announcement after an emergency meeting on Friday 15 with top officials and reviewed its preparations for the Nigeria 2019 general elections.

"Following a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible elections, the commission came the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible", says Yakuku.

He says the postponement "...will afford the commission the opportunity to address and identify challenges in order to maintain the quality of our elections"

"This was a difficult decision for the commission to take but necessary the successful delivery of election and the consolidation of our democracy". 

"The commission will meet key stakeholders to update them on this development at 2pm, Saturday 16 February 2019 at the Abuja International Conference Centre", he added.

The Nigeria 2019 presidential and national assembly
election is now scheduled to hold on 23 February 2019 while the governorship, state house of assembly and FCT area council elections will hold on 9 March 2019.

Meanwhile, more than 65 persons were killed by unidentified gunmen in Kajuru local government areas of Kaduna state, Friday 15. The state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has confirmed the incident which 22 children and 12 women were victims while four wounded persons were rescued by security personnel.
